What it will never do
No ads. No freemium. No premium currency.
Most mobile games now are built to extract money rather than to be played - endless ad breaks, subscriptions, consumables, a currency you have to buy to spend. EvoPet has none of it. You buy the game once and you own all of it.
“If I added one of those buy-premium-currency pages to my games, I would have sold my soul.”
One purchase unlocks
- Up to 7 monsters at a time
- Higher level tournaments and rogue dungeons
- Higher level perks in the massive perk tree
- A Pro dark theme

About
Made by one person, over ten years
I am Jamie, a software engineer from Victoria, Australia, and I am the only developer on EvoPet. I have been making games in GameMaker since I was young.
I first tried a virtual pet game in 2010. After a year it had scope-crept into a free-roam LAN RPG with a card game bolted on - a mess nobody was ever going to play. I tried again as a pinball game, then a tower defence, then a turn-based strategy. Each time the pet ended up as the neglected half.
In 2015 I decided to make a virtual pet with nothing else attached, and spent over a year on just feeding, training and evolving, with no idea what the battles would be. The three-lane idea felt empty until I realised card games can run in real time - and the monsters' attacks became the deck.
In 2018 I left my job to work on games full time, living off savings. EvoPet is what came of that.
